The Alexandria Center for Languages is one of the pioneer institutes to offer specialized courses in Arabic as a Foreign Language. Our mission is to deliver high quality student-oriented instruction in Modern Standard Arabic as well as Colloquial Egyptian Arabic. Special courses can be tailored to meet student and home institute specific needs including Media Arabic, translation, and Classical Arabic. We take pride in our instructors, who are highly qualified with extensive experience in foreign language instruction. The Center provides different modes of instruction: tutorials for individual students, language and culture courses for groups of university students, and language services for government officials and researchers. The Center is a favorite destination for study abroad programs from many American universities inlcuding Western Michigan University, the University of Utah, Brigham Young University, and North Carolina State University, as well as other academic institutions in Japan and Germany. The Center is located in a unique area of Alexandria . It is only a 10 minute walk from the Bibliotheca Alexandrina and the heart of the city where most of the movie theaters, restaurants, shopping areas and entertainment places are located. Many universities, museums, international banks, hosptitals and other services are also avaiable in the same neighborhood. Our classrooms are comfortably airconditioned and equipped with audio/video players, internet access, and other instructional technologies as needed. Sudents can join sports and social clubs at a reduced membership fee, and they have the opportunity to socialize with Egyptians with similar interests. The academic consultant and advisor for the Center is Dr. Abdou Al-Rajhi, Professor of Arabic Linguistics and former Chair of the Arabic Department at the University of Alexandria . Dr. Al-Rajhi is also a consultant for various international academic institutes for teaching Arabic as a foreign language in South East Asia . Ms. Magda Abou Youssef, ACL director, has been in charge of similar programs over the past 20 years. She is currently the Director of Studies for the SOAS consortium of British universities study abroad program at the University of Alexandria .
