The group started by Mr. Hany M. Fathy in 1986 as a business consulting firm in project studies and IT systems development. In the early 1990s, he started the first business company in general trade & export which lead to TV shopping operation by 1994. Since then, the group services diversified to incorporate complementing operations. By the year 2000 the group was comprised of a setup of 6 business companies’ working together as a TV shopping network. The business scope extended to cover product sourcing, media production, satellite channel operation, phone order taking and fulfillment including parcel delivery and collection. The operation experienced rapid growth in resources allocated and volume of business. The start of TV shopping in 1994 required 4 telephone lines and 14 members in staff. By the end of 1996 the telephone lines reached 24 lines and 60 staff members. The total turnover in two years grew from us 1.2 million in 1994 to us 3.6 million. By year 2005 the number of staff exceeded 160 members with 120 telephone lines and a turnover of us 10 million. Projections for 2006 are to reach us 12 million with same resources. The scope of services provided by the group is heavily dependant on IT and staff intensive streamlined processes. The operation generates and fulfills an average of 400 sales order/day. Geographical coverage of order fulfillment is nationwide with a 48-hours guaranteed response time. Sales by installment for home appliances and durable goods represents a new avenue in the scope of services. Processing “Tamima-Miza” Co-branded master card with National bank of Egypt is more resource intensive. It requires 2 calls, 2 trips to customer, besides collective trips to the issuing bank. Generated sales of durable goods is growing, thus delivery require more capable fleet than it used to be for lighter items. The business model is currently accommodating the interactive TV services. The new service will respond to low cost classified advertisers on Tamima TV via mobile phone as well as auctions on new or used products. The services may potentially include other SMS based inter-active offerings. Direct Response Consumer Finance offer a clear potential.
